October

October is my favorite month in Pittsburgh. The leaves are beautiful, we've gotten our routine down, there are days when it's in the 80s and cold days when you can curl up with something pumpkin flavored. Here's a little sampling of our month.

Line em up

We've decided to create a massive urban garden in our tiny yard next summer, so we've gotten rid of the bushes and repointed the bricks on the garage so that it can support a green roof.

HOT!

Guillaume and I got free tickets to see The Boss for agreeing to volunteer for the campaign.

The line was thousands of people long. Morfar stayed home with Babis so that we could go date style.

Halloween crafting underway.

Antonia had so much fun with her Morfar, or as she likes to call him: Artoo

One of the days it was 85 and sunny.

Antonia spends most of her awake time putting her baby dolls and Elmo to bed around the house: something she learned from school nap time. Here is one of the beds she left behind, a dish towel and the cushion from her car seat.

Ice cream at Coldstone. I got her banana, but she wanted my chocolate...

Ainadamar at the Quantum Theatre in East Liberty: a flamenco opera about poet Federico Garcia Lorca. All woman cast!

The wheels on the bus go round and round. (Incessantly)

Hurricane Sandy affected us too! We got a ton of rain and wind. Luckily we had power and no real flooding, just wet basement floors.

We're either watching Homeland or Dexter here.

Snuggles before Papa has to go to work.

This was my sweater that my grandmother knit from a WWF pattern. Most Swedish children have one!

In an effort to keep Antonia from eating her playdough, we allow her to kiss it. It works most of the time.

Waiting for Hanna! (Obsessed with the bus!)

Hanna came from Sweden (via NYC) for a short visit. We took her shopping.

Enrico's in the Strip.

Fika! Hanna's first pumpkin pie!

She says she liked it...

Osie osie! (Ring around the rosie--favorite new past time)

Dia de los Muertos put on by the Spanish speaking school in Squirrel Hill. We went right before trick or treating.

A little side note about Antonia's costume. I tried to make a jellyfish costume, but she wouldn't wear it for more than a minute. I sewed the top out of an old pillow case and was going to stuff it. In the end we did it in two parts. She only had to wear the skirt and I held the umbrella above her, acting as part of the costume.
First: here she is as a "Coo coo pigeon" last year:

Trick or Treat!

Hurricane Sandy caused our Halloween to be rescheduled for Saturday, but that didn't stop the 100s of trick or treaters! Morningside is a good neighborhood because the houses are so close together and everyone sits out on their porches with bowls of candy. A lot of people decorate too. Antonia enjoyed watching all the costumes, but seemed scared of the masks.

Here are a couple of videos of Antonia's new language skills. Merci. Arrête!
